Q: How does a bankruptcy effect getting in the military?
I want to re-enlist in the military and well my credit is bad mostly medical, and I want to file for bankruptcy and then finish college to become an officer will this effect me becoming an officer in any of the military Branch's? Btw forgot to add the medical condition was from my apendix being taken out and i didnt have medical insurance for it, ran up almost 20,000 in hospital bills.

A: Filing bankruptcy does NOT always keeps you from getting a clearance. And it's defiantly NOT an automatic DQ for getting a clearance. They look at more than just your finances. Talk to a recruiter..... They will be your BEST option for information on what will and won't keep you from getting into the Military. We have filed bankrupcy and my husband has a clearance, infact he "renewed" (they re did the WHOLE investigation because it was time for it) about 2 months AFTER we filed and it was granted so it's obviously not an automatic DQ. .

Q: Will my parents bankruptcy effect my brother getting loans for college?
My parents filed for bankruptcy about 2 years ago. This year my brother is graduating from high school and hopefully will start college. They can't pay for tuition out of pocket, so they are relying on scholarships and loans. What kind of effect will bankruptcy have on him getting student loans?

A: careers.scienceontheweb.net - it provides some tips about applying to US federal and state grants for college students.

Q: How will a GM bankruptcy effect GMAC LLC?
Does anyone know the effect a GM bankruptcy would have on the GMAC company or the GMAC SmartNotes since GM only owns 49% of GMAC?

A: GM owns 51% of GMAC. The other 49% is owned by Cerebus, the owner of Chrysler. GMAC applied for banking status, so it could line up for part of the $700B. If GM needs to raise cash, they'll probably sell GMAC, corporate jets, Hummer, Suzuki, etc.

Q: How much does filing for bankruptcy effect your credit?
I got into a situation that couldn't be avoided and unfortunatly have a large amount of credit card debt from it. I've been looking at bankruptcy, does anyone know how much it will ruin my credit? I have pretty decent credit, but I lost my job and I just can't keep up with these payments. I've heard it's better than doing that debt consolidation you see on TV. Anyone have any advice at all?

A: It will affect youre credit greatly. I've been in the same situation. Look for any way to get out of this, without having to file for bankruptcy. Bankruptcy will hurt your credit score greatly.

Q: How much will the Chrysler Bankruptcy Effect Canadian Auto Workers?
I know a large percentage of Chrysler products (Vans, Crossovers, SUV's and Rear Wheel Drive Vehicles - maybe pickups) are produced entirely in Canada. I don't know the what percentage of Total production is. With our "Bailout / Bankruptcy" schemes are we helping or screwing over the Canadians or ourselves? (We have now done it both ways Bailed them out - AND forced them into Bankruptcy)

A: Obama was PISSED because the investors (representing teachers union and many retirement funds) would not take his crappy deal. They knew a bankruptcy judge would have to satisfy the debts to them first. Obama wants control over everything. What would all you liberals do if the business's and rich people said "screw it we give up". Then they could get on the dole like everybody else. Who would pay the tax bill then?

Q: Will a past bankruptcy effect our chances of adopting?
We had a business that went under about a year ago and we had to file bankruptcy. We kept our home and all of our cars and are now stable and back on track. Will this hurt our chances of being approved for an adoption?

A: Depending on the agency, anything can potentially help/hurt your chances. You will need to discuss this with the agencies that you are working with. Remember that non-disclosure or falsifying documents can get you into big trouble, and you'll need to be as honest as you can while filling out paperwork and talking to people. If you are stable now, chances are that they'll still look at it, but they might understand because of the risks involved in owning a business. It is always best to ask, though. Every agency is different.

Q: Can bankruptcy effect the payment of child support?
My brother-in-law is a real piece of work. He has two children, neither one he takes cares of or presently pays child support for. However, he makes sure that every year he claims them on his taxes so he gets extra money back for them. The mother is now taking him to court to get child support. We found out the other day that he is going to declare bankruptcy to try to get out of paying the child support. Will it work?

A: NOPE he cant. the basics; there are no "fathers rights" in child support there are no "mothers rights" in child support there are ONLY the childs rights. the state and federal government are TIRED of parents not paying for thier children, so they passed stronger laws. they are tired of paying for these kids (welfare), and finally realized its the main cause for families being forced onto welfare; NO CHILD SUPPORT. years ago (MANY YEARS AGO) they allowed that crap (and more) to go on... but not today. GONE are the days of hiding til the child hits 18; today, arrears are FOREVER. no more screwing little kids, thank God. even if that child is now 30 and getting married, he STILL owes that money to the mother. as for claiming the children on his taxes even though he didnt pay more then half of their living expenses (let alone anything) and they didnt reside w/him for a certain amount of months out of the year.... i would report his ass to the IRS. well, the honor system doenst work, thats for sure. if your on good terms with the deadbeats ex, give her all of these links; she'll need 'em. tell her that if her caseworker isnt on the ball, that she needs to pull rank on 'em and report he case to her states Regional FEDERAL Child Support Office. I don't believe I would be handling any money. And why would it matter any way> Isn't that discrimination? If so does any one know a sight where I can view the law that says this? Also I was pretty much offered the job, they said I was perfect for it. so if they don't call me I will know why.

A: 'Affect' not 'effect'...

Q: Will my moms bankruptcy effect my chances of getting credit?
My mom recently declared Bankruptcy and I was wondering if this meant that it would be harder for me to get a credit card. I know it was her financial situation in the first place and I didnt contribute but I need to know if the banks will look at my moms history and say "oh he comes from a family that makes bad decisions" and deny me

A: It's illegal to even ask for your mother's name. Her file is hers and your file is yours, although some people have had problems with the bankruptcy being recorded in the wrong file because of same last name and same address, but this is not your creditworthiness, this is just a clerical error that can be fixed.

Q: dose doing bankruptcy effect the chance of getting the citizenship?

A: It could very well affect your citizenship, along with your current status. If you read the rules/laws. You are required to meet specific requirements, such as being self supporting, or having someone sponser you, in the event of not being self supporting. It would appear you have a big question mark in that area. The idea, is not to become a burden on the other tax payers. Bankruptcy...is a burden. Now...that being said. If you are Hispanic/Latino. NO it won't affect anything. Wait 6 months, and they will make you a citizen.
