Q: Why is it that you can't get free online credit report in Canada?
You can only get the report if you send them all "the requirements" through mail and wait for friggin 4 weeks to get your free copy of your credit report. Otherwise, you have to pay $15 to get it online. Don't you think this system is retarded and unfair to the people? Banks and others can see your credit no problems but for yourself, you have to go through the headache?
A: The free credit report available in the U. S. is the result of a federal law passed a couple of years ago. Canada didn't pass a similar law.
Q: How do I get my credit report in Canada for free?
I truly resent that companies are allowed to SELL me my own credit information. After all, this is MY information isn't it? So I'm wondering if there is somewhere that I can have easy access to my credit history/rating for free. Any ideas? Thank you.
A: Ignore the other answers, they apply only to obtaining your credit report in the US.
Here in Canada you are entitled to receive unlimited copies of your credit report (the credit bureaus are NOT required to provide you with your credit score for free, and getting that will cost approximately $25 through either of their websites).
Firstly, here in Canada we have the same three credit bureaus as the US, these are (in order of popularity with creditors):
Equifax - The most common
http://www.equifax.ca
Transunion - Second, but still popular
http://www.transunion.ca
Experian - Neglible, it is the former "Northern Credit" which I have yet to see used by any creditors.
http://www.creditbureau.ca/
With all three of these bureaus you are entitled to receive as many credit reports as you request (my personal maximum for any calendar year was 12 free credit reports, but that's overkill).
Equifax and Transunion offer a free service where you can phone in, and after successfully answering a series of questions (based on the information contained in your credit report, which presumably only you would know) they will mail a copy of your credit report to your most recent registered address (turnaround time is approximately one week for this method).
Equifax: 1-800-465-7166
Transunion: 1-800-663-9980
If you have an extremely limited credit history, or have no credit there will be no information to verify and they will require that you mail in your request along with photocopies of Identification (drivers licence) and a utility bill in your name with your current address. Once received they will send out your credit report (turn around time for this method is approximately 30 days). NB. If you are avoiding collection agencies this method WILL update your information with the credit bureaus.

It's that simple. All Canadians are entitled to receive a copy of their credit report free of charge, the only requirement they must meet is the ability to prove that they are who they say they are.
Good luck, hope this was some help!
Q: I have a item listed under special services of my Equifax Canada credit report - it says Consumer Interview?
SPS-SpecialServices/CodeDescription:
Consumer interview
Date Reported: 2006-06
What is this? Thanks :)
A: Just means you spoke with someone at Equifax, have you filed a dispute or called in to ask about your credit report back in 2006?
Typically this is what this would indicate.
Q: where can i find my free credit report in canada?
I need to see my credit rating....l live in Canada.........is there a free site
A: You can contact Equifax Canada and Trans Union Canada.

Q: How can I get a truly free credit report in Canada?
A: Log on to: www.equifax.com
It's a trusted, safe, valuable and excellent website in which you can enjoy a free credit report for you.
You only need to register and enter your social security number (SSN) and you will enter ina few seconds to your credit report.
It's very important to take care of the credit mostly in United States and in Canada, it's a very important thing that you need to keep in mind, so always have only 1 credit card, not 2, 3 ,5 just one, and use it only when it's necessary, try to get a high paid job and try to enjoy your life as everybody does without worrying to not be able to have your money and life well.
Regards
Q: Where can I view the items on my credit report for free in Canada?
I want to see what exactly is on my credit report, but all the websites are asking me for a credit card, which I don't have. I've never gotten my credit report before and i'd like to get a copy of it.

Q: Can creditors in Canada report debt in Canada to Equifax and affect your credit report in the United States?
A: Yes. Once Equifax gets the information it becomes part of your record.
Q: Bank Account in Canada, and Credit Report Michigan ?
Hello fellows,
Is it legal to open personal bank account in another country like Canada, or Mexico?
And if you do, is it going to appear in your Credit Report form Equifax, TransUnion, and Experian?
And if does can the American Government or Judgments put hand on it?
Is it punishable to open a bank account in Canada even if you report the income tax?
Peace
A: You can open a bank account in any country you wish. Bank accounts are not reported to credit bureaus. When you borrow from someone, they will report how well you pay back a loan to the credit bureaus - banks do not report that you have an account with them to credit bureaus. They will report if you borrow from them. If you are looking to hide money from judgements etc, suggest you look into an account in the Cayman Islands. Again - it would not be illegal to open an account in Canada.
Q: Will a bad credit report in Australia affect my credit in Canada or ability to get credit in Canada?
I was living in Australia for a year and just realized that I forgot to pay my last bill for internet service. I'm wondering if this unpaid bill wil come back to haunt me?
A: Have you received any notices about it going into collection? If not, you maybe OK. However, your credit history travels around the world.

Q: Help does anyone know where to get a free on line credit report in Canada?
A: Credit reporting agencies are required to provide a copy of your information to you if asked as long as proper identification is provided. However, the manner in which they provide this information is up to them. All of them will provide a copy via the mail for free. However, for instant access they charge you a fee. Just another way for them to make money off your personal information.
Interesting how it is your information, yet they are the ones making money from it.
Q: Personal Bank Account in Canada, and Credit Report in USA?
Hello fellows,
Is it legal to open personal bank account in another country like Canada, or Mexico?
And if you do, is it going to appear in your Credit Report form Equifax, TransUnion, and Experian?
And if does can the American Government or Judgments put hand on it?

A: 1. You can open a bank account in any country you want to unless it's one that we have barred from doing business with.
2. Bank accounts do not show on credit reports.
3. In the 2 country's you mentioned yes they can.
4. See answer 1.
Q: Is there a real site where i can get a FREE credit report in Canada ?
A: It is free to get a credit report in Canada by mail only. There is always a fee for an online copy. You can call 1 -800-465-7166 to order a free report.
Q: How long does a debt from a collection agency stay on your credit report in British Columbia, Canada?
Is there a time frame on how long it can legally stay on your credit such as 5 years etc.
It is not from a credit card but a private business. It is on my credit report and its from 2003(May). It is my only "bad" item on my report but my mortgage broker said this could affect my interest rate I get on my mortgage. (first time buyer)
A: Here in Canada both Equifax and Transunion purge bad credit line and collections information after 6 years from the "date of last activity".
If your debt is from May of 2003 then it will disappear from the system on May 2009. You would be well advised to obtain a copy of your credit reports to verify that the "date of last activity" is correct.
"...COLLECTION ACCOUNTS: A collection account under public records will automatically purge from the system six (6) years from the date of last activity..."
http://www.equifax.com/EFX_Canada/consumer_information_centre/faqs_e.html#ques12
Your mortgage broker can confirm the DLA for the credit report he pulled, but you'll want to check with the other credit bureau (if he got your report from Equifax you'll want to check Transunion, and if he checked Transunion you'll want to check Equifax) to make sure there are no other nasty suprises waiting for you (there is a third credit bureau, Northern Credit/Experian but no one really uses them much, it's entirely up to you whether you want to request this credit report as well).

Q: Where is Dell Head Office in Canada? They are reporting debt on my credit report for a system I returned?
I purchased a system, that was shipped defective. I returned it (actually, Dell picked it up), and now need to communicate with them to remove the debt from my credit report. They have not responded to my queries at all, and I'd like to write to the President.
A: EDIT: I think you'll get further if you call and give your shipping number. Sometimes there are delays with credit card companies and businesses. Call and complain, then write the letter. I just think it would take longer if your just did it by mail.
